Mission Statement

cal con 2015 welcomeThe North American Calorimetry Conference (CALCON) has served as the premier collegial forum for the dissemination of current research and state-of-the-art technological developments in calorimetry and thermodynamics since its inception in 1946. CALCON convenes annually at selected sites in the United States or Canada, and jointly with the IUPAC sponsored International Conference on Chemical Thermodynamics whenever ICCT meets in North America. CALCON participants represent a broad cross-section of scientists in academia, government, and industry whose research interests primarily focus on the development and application of calorimetric methods and/or thermochemical techniques. Papers presented at CALCON span a diverse range of disciplines within the fields of biology, chemistry, and physics as well as emerging areas of research at the interface of core disciplines. Specific areas of interest include fundamental advances and applications in biology and medicine, biothermodynamics, biomaterials, environmental sciences, pharmaceutical products, food technology, solutions and fluid mixtures, condensed matter, nanoparticles, polymer science, solid-state materials, computer simulations, and thermodynamic databases. CALCON welcomes original research contributions describing novel and innovative thermodynamic approaches at the interface of core technologies.

The Seventieth Calorimetry Conference

The Seventieth Calorimetry Conference (CALCON 2015) follows in the footsteps of last year's journey to the land of enchantment in picturesque Santa Fe, New Mexico. While the southwest represents a favorite destination, The Calorimetry Conference returns to the mid-Atlantic region which has hosted our memorable Fiftieth (1995) and Sixtieth (2005) annual meetings. This year's Seventieth Calorimetry Conference convenes within the shadows of Fort McHenry, an historic site at which Francis Scott Key penned The Star-Spangled Banner two hundred years ago. CALCON 2015 offers meeting participants a retrospective journey to our formative years as both a nation and conference. The Organizing Committe welcomes your company as we revisit the Inner Harbor of Baltimore which hosted The Eleventh Calorimetry Conference in 1956. The site of CALCON 2015 is the Hyatt Regency, a luxurious hotel offering all of the latest amenities that are synonymous with first class accommodations afforded to Calorimetry Conference participants. We cordially invite you to join us and celebrate Seven Decades of Innovation and Progress in Calorimetry and Chemical Thermodynamics. In recognition of our heritage and legacy, the Conference Organizing Committee is proud to announce that this year's Keynote Event is the Sixtieth Anniversary Hugh M. Huffman Memorial Award Celebration.

Amidst the spectacular views of the Baltimore Inner Harbor, our colleagues will enjoy a diverse Scientific Program comprised of eight symposia addressing current topics in:

  • Biomolecular Structure, Function, and Stability
  • Macromolecular Association and Recognition
  • Biopharmaceutical Applications and Drug Discovery
  • Nanotechnology: Microfluidics and Interfacial Characterization
  • Low Temperature Specific Heat Capacity Studies
  • Liquid Solutions and Fluid Mixtures
  • Databases, Global Analysis, Modeling, and Simulations
  • Specialized Applications of Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis

Conference participants are invited to submit original research papers presenting novel calorimetric, thermochemical, and thermodynamic studies for platform or poster presentation. Please join your colleagues during the week of 12-16 July 2015 as we convene our Seventieth Annual Meeting at the luxurious Hyatt Regency - Baltimore Inner Harbor and enjoy a memorable visit to the site of our Nation's first capital in the Charm City.
