Mission Statement

cal con 2017 welcomeThe North American Calorimetry Conference (CALCON) has served as the premier collegial forum for the dissemination of current research and state-of-the-art technological developments in calorimetry and thermodynamics since its inception in 1946. CALCON convenes annually at selected sites in the United States or Canada, and jointly with the IUPAC sponsored International Conference on Chemical Thermodynamics whenever ICCT meets in North America. CALCON participants represent a broad cross-section of scientists in academia, government, and industry whose research interests primarily focus on the development and application of calorimetric methods and/or thermochemical techniques. Papers presented at CALCON span a diverse range of disciplines within the fields of biology, chemistry, and physics as well as emerging areas of research at the interface of core disciplines. Specific areas of interest include fundamental advances and applications in biology and medicine, biothermodynamics, biomaterials, environmental sciences, pharmaceutical products, food technology, solutions and fluid mixtures, condensed matter, nanoparticles, polymer science, solid-state materials, computer simulations, and thermodynamic databases. CALCON welcomes original research contributions describing novel and innovative thermodynamic approaches at the interface of core technologies.

The Seventy Second Calorimetry Conference

The Seventy Second Calorimetry Conference (CALCON 2017) follows in the footsteps of last year's memorable Fourth Joint Meeting convened between the North American Calorimetry Conference and our distingushed colleagues in the Japan Society of Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis (JSCTA). Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu served as a picturesque setting for a highly successful scientific program that attracted prominent scientists within their respective fields. Continuing our Eighth Decade of Service to the International Scientific Community, the Organizing Committee welcomes your company as we revisit the idyllic grounds of Glen Eyrie Castle and Conference Center in Colorado Springs. Situated proximate to Pikes Peak within the magnificent Rocky Mountain range, Glen Eyrie is a favorite conference destination that has hosted our 2001 and 2010 meetings. We cordially invite you to join us as we convene the Jack Aviv Biothermodynamics Symposium to honor and recognize the pioneering contributions of a beloved friend and cherished colleague.

Amidst the panoramic splendor and tranquil solitude of Glen Eyrie's natural landscape, our conferees will enjoy a diverse Scientific Program comprised of eight symposia focused on relevant and timely topics:

  • Jack Aviv Biothermodynamics Symposium
  • Macromolecular Association and Recognition
  • Biopharmaceutical Applications and Drug Discovery
  • Condensed Matter, Materials, and Phase Transitions
  • Colloids and Surfactants
  • Databases, Global Analysis, Modeling, and Simulations
  • Liquid Solutions over Extended Temperature and Pressure Ranges
  • Thermodynamic Properties of Ionic Liquids

Conference participants are invited to submit original research papers presenting novel calorimetric and thermodynamic studies for platform or poster presentation. Please join your colleagues during the week of 30 July - 03 August 2017 as we convene our Seventy Second Annual Meeting at Glen Eyrie Castle and Conference Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
