GENERAL PURPOSE:

 

Carry out one or more research projects under the direction of an R&D scientist.  Contribute to other area of research as needed and as time permits

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

     1. Conduct and complete one or more technical projects.

     2. Write summary reports of projects

     3. Prepare laboratory batches of experimental materials

     4. Apply products to specimens for fire and/or other tests

     5. Conduct in-house laboratory tests, potentially including the plate-furnace test

     6. Conduct and contribute other R&D functions as needed

     7. Record and manage data

     8. Maintain a clean and organized lab area, including materials, equipment and tools

     9. Comply with environmental, health and safety practices

 

OUTSIDE COMPANY:  No work outside of the company is anticipated.

 

INSIDE COMPANY:  Work with personnel in R&D to accomplish least one project effectively and efficiently.

EXPERIENCE: (Number of years of work experience in a specific activity, function, field or industry which is clearly defined, e.g., two years experience in Corporate Accounting in a managerial capacity is required)

At least 3 months of experience in an area requiring physical skills (e.g., construction, stocking, mechanics, etc.)

At least 3 months of experience in a laboratory study (outside of course work) is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE: (Formal education or training required.  Formal education includes college degrees, business or vocational school, certification, license, etc.

Completed 1-3 years of college, majoring in chemistry, chemical engineering or materials science.  Other scientific majors will be considered, but are not preferred.
