From rhs07@albany.edu Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 22:15:36 -0500 From: sarma To: xiangjun@rutchem.rutgers.edu Subject: A post Conversation workshop on CURVES Dear X J Lu:: A post Conversation workshop on the final new CURVES program is being arranged. It will be led by Heinz Sklenar, MDC Berlin, and will take place starting at 3:00 PM after the farewell Conversation lunch. The rational for this is the following: The Conversation program believes that there should be a standard program for users so that meaningful comparisons of nucleic acid structures from different labs, obtained by such allied methods as X-ray, NMR, molecular simulation & modeling, can be made on the basis of the published results without the need to re-analyze the data. For example, a common platform of new CURVES, easy to use without the added burden of reanalysis and uncertainity, to compare varied structures, will contribute immensely to the vitality and vigor of nucleic acid structural research. Dr. Heinz Sklenar expects to complete the development of the program before mid May, and at that time he will mail this out for trial in various labs. The basic plan of the workshop envisions Heinz to present his new CURVES program with some examples (e.g. single, double and triple-stranded nucleic acids, analysis of curvature, kinks etc.) and then the various trial laboratories will share their experience, and discuss what amendments are desirable to the program so that it meets the requirements of x-ray, NMR and theoretical structural people. The Final 2003 New CURVES will be published in the Journal of Biomolecuar Structure and Dynamics. As someone deeply committed to nucleic acid structures, it is important that you agree to receive the trail version, and share your results at the workshop. Note that the workshop is on June 21st Saturday at 3:00 PM after the farewell lunch of 13th Conversation. There are no fees or charges to participate in the workshop. Just walk in. At this time we do not know whether the workshop will be over by 6:00 pm or we have to go for a dinner break and come back. If you need to saty over night, you can get accommodation at the University Residence Halls ($45).or nearby hotels (see page 2 attached forms). If you wish to come to the Conversation: http://www.jbsdonline.com/index.cfm?d=3012&c=4090&p=11202&do=detail and continue into the workshop, you will have to complete the forms attached and make appropriate payments. By this letter, in behalf of the Organizing Cmte, I invite you to participate in the workshop as a trial laboratory. If you accept the invitation, I will inform Heinz to send you the new CURVES before mid May 2003. Looking forward to hearing a favorable response.
