My research interests are in the synthetic chemistry of nucleic acids and nucleosides, and in synthetic approaches to elucidation of nucleic acid structure and interactions. It includes developing new methods for nucleoside synthesis as well as both DNA and RNA synthesis. Nucleoside derivatives of biological importance, and nucleosides containing stable isotopes such as 2H, 13C, and 15N, are synthesized and incorporated into short nucleic acid fragments. These molecules probe, via NMR, nucleic acid structure and interactions.
