Biodegradable Ferulic Acid-containing Poly(anhydride-ester): Degradation Products with Controlled Release and Sustained Antioxidant Activity

Ferulic acid is a naturally-ocurring antioxidant and antimicrobial compound used in biomedical and cosmetic formulations to prevent oxidative stress and aging, but suffers from poor stability.  To improve stability, ferulic acid was chemically incorporated into a poly(anhydride-ester) backbone that subsequently exhibited controlled, sustained release of the bioactive upon hydrolytic degradation.
