Abstract: Naphthalenediimides (NDIs) are versatile molecules that have been used in aqueous media in the assembly of catenanes1 and knots2 while in organic solvents they have been employed in the assembly of supramolecular nanotubes and hexameric capsules that bind C70.3 In this talk we explore the dynamic combinatorial synthesis of knots, the synthesis of non-symmetrical and core-modified NDIs4 and their use in covalent and supramolecular polymers.5 We also discuss the possibility of using the extended aromatic core of the NDI for supramolecular fictionalisation of carbon nanotubes and graphene. The incorporation of NDI/graphene hybrids into electro-active devices is also explored.
